Domitian, originally Titus Flavius Domitianus AD51-96
Roman emperor

The son of Vespasian, he succeeded his elder brother Titus as emperor in AD81. He ruled well at first, and was a zealous administrator and builder; he expanded Roman territory in Britain and tried to improve public morality. However his autocratic manner and severity alienated the Roman upper classes, and his reign declined into violence and terror. He eventually fell victim to one of many conspiracies, and the Flavian dynasty came to an end with him.
