Frederick Augustus, Duke of York and Albany 1763-1827
English nobleman
Born at St James's Palace, London, the second son of George III of Great Britain, he was a soldier by profession, but was unsuccessful both in the field in the Netherlands (1793-99) and as British Commander-in-Chief (1798-1809), and earned the nickname of the 'grand old Duke of York' in the nursery rhyme. However, his painstaking reform of the army proved of lasting benefit, especially to the Duke of Wellington. He founded the Duke of York's School in London, and is commemorated by the Duke of York's column in Waterloo Place, London.

A wildcard is a special character you can use to replace one or more characters in a word. There are two types of wildcard. The first is a question mark ?, which matches a single character. The second is an asterisk *, which matches zero or more characters. The two kinds of wildcard can be mixed in a single search.
