Frederik I 1471-1533
King of Denmark and Norway

The son of Kristian I and uncle of Kristian II, he was Duke of Holstein before being chosen king (1523) when Kristian II, who had just lost Sweden to Gustav I Vasa, was dethroned by a rebellion in Denmark. An invasion of Norway (1531-32) by the ex-king failed. Frederik died soon afterwards, on the verge of accepting Lutheranism, and was succeeded by his son Kristian III.
