Gallienus, Publius Licinius c.218-268AD
Roman emperor

He ruled jointly with his father, Publius Lucinius Valerian, from AD253 until 260. His authority was constantly challenged (for example, by Postumus in Gaul and Gothic raids into Greece), while the legions frequently proclaimed their commanders Caesars. He abandoned Valerian's persecution of Christians, and developed a formidable force of cavalry. In 268, while besieging one of his rivals in Milan, he was murdered by his own officers.
