Garnett, David, nicknamed Bunny 1892-1981
English novelist
He was born in Brighton, the son of Edward Garnett, and studied botany at the Royal College of Science, London. His first novel, Lady into Fox (1922), won both the Hawthornden and the James Tait Black Memorial prizes. A Man in the Zoo (1924) and The Sailor's Return (1925) were also successful, as were several other novels. Associated with the Bloomsbury Group of artists and writers, he was literary adviser to the Nonesuch Press (1923-32) and literary editor of the New Statesman (1932-34). He joined the RAF in 1939, and used this experience for War in the Air (1941).
