Genlis, Stéphanie Felicité Ducrest de St Aubin, Comtesse de 1746-1830
French writer
She was born in Champcéri, near Autun, and at the age of 16 married the Comte de Genlis. In 1770 she was made lady-in-waiting to the Duchess of Chartres, to whose husband, Louis Philippe d'Orléans 'Égalité', she became mistress. She wrote four volumes of short plays entitled Théâtre d'éducation (1779) for her charges, the royal children, including the future King Louis Philippe, and nearly a hundred volumes of historical romances and 'improving' works. Her Mémoires (1825) contain interesting social comments on the period.

A wildcard is a special character you can use to replace one or more characters in a word. There are two types of wildcard. The first is a question mark ?, which matches a single character. The second is an asterisk *, which matches zero or more characters. The two kinds of wildcard can be mixed in a single search.
