Guilbert, Yvette c.1869-1944
French comedienne

Born in Paris, she was a seamstress before she went on the stage. She became famous for her songs and sketches of all facets of Parisian life and, after 1890, for her revivals of old French ballads. Later, she founded a school of acting in New York City. She wrote two novels, and La Chanson de ma vie (1919, 'Song of My Life').
