Haakon VII 1872-1957
King of Norway
Born in Charlottenlund, Denmark, he was Prince Carl of Denmark, being the second son of King Frederik VIII, and was elected King of Norway (1905) when the country voted for independence from Sweden. In 1896 he married Princess Maud, youngest daughter of King Edward VII of Great Britain. Known as the 'people's king', he dispensed with much of the pomp of royalty. When Germany invaded Norway (1940) he refused to abdicate, and when further armed resistance was impossible, carried on the resistance from Great Britain, returning in triumph in 1945. He was succeeded by his son, Olav V.

A wildcard is a special character you can use to replace one or more characters in a word. There are two types of wildcard. The first is a question mark ?, which matches a single character. The second is an asterisk *, which matches zero or more characters. The two kinds of wildcard can be mixed in a single search.
