Harold I Knutsson, Harefoot d.1040
King of England

He was the younger son of Knut Sveinsson (Canute the Great) and his English mistress Ćlfgifu of Northampton. On Knut's death the English elected Harold Harefoot regent for his half-brother Hardaknut, King of Denmark, the legitimate heir to the throne, who could not leave Denmark to claim the Crown. In 1037 Harold was elected king, but died just as Hardaknut was poised to invade England.
