Magnússon, Eiríkur 1833-1913
Icelandic philologist and scholar

Born in eastern Iceland, he became librarian of Cambridge University, England. Among the many classical Icelandic texts he edited and translated was Jón Arason's monumental collection of folk-tales (Legends of Iceland, 1864-66). He also collaborated with William Morris in a notable series of Saga translations, including Grettis Saga (1869), Volsunga Saga (1870) and The Saga Library (5 vols, 1891-95).
