Malibran, Marie Felicita, née Maria García 1808-36
Spanish mezzo-soprano

Born in Paris, she was the daughter of the Spanish singer Manuel García, who was her most important teacher, and sister of Pauline Viardot-García. She made her operatic debut in London in 1825, and went on to become the most famous female singer of her time. Divorcing her first husband in 1836, she remarried, but died the same year following a fall from a horse.
