Manchester, Edward Montagu, 2nd Earl of 1602-71
English soldier
In 1623 he accompanied Prince Charles (Charles I) to Spain on his abortive mission to woo the Infanta Maria, and in 1626 was raised to the House of Lords as Baron Montagu of Kimbolton, but was better known by his courtesy title of Viscount Mandeville. Siding with the Popular party, and an acknowledged leader of the Puritans in the Upper House, in 1642 he was impeached by the king for treachery, but was acquitted. He succeeded his father as 2nd Earl in the same year. At the outbreak of the Civil War he fought for the Parliamentarians. He served under the 3rd Earl of Essex at Edgehill, and then held the associated (eastern) counties against William Cavendish, Duke of Newcastle, took Lincoln (1644), and routed Prince Rupert at Marston Moor (1644). He then marched to oppose the Royalists in the south-west, and defeated them at Newbury (the second battle). Deprived of his command (1645), he opposed the trial of the king, and protested against the Commonwealth. Afterwards, having been active in promoting the Restoration, he was made Lord Chamberlain (1660), a step designed to conciliate the Presbyterians.

A wildcard is a special character you can use to replace one or more characters in a word. There are two types of wildcard. The first is a question mark ?, which matches a single character. The second is an asterisk *, which matches zero or more characters. The two kinds of wildcard can be mixed in a single search.
