Meilhac, Henri 1831-97
French playwright

He was born in Paris, and from 1855 produced a long series of light comedies - some in conjunction with Ludovic Halévy, and some, including La Belle Hélène (1864), well known through Jacques Offenbach's music. His masterpiece is Frou-Frou (1869). He also collaborated with Ludovic Halévy and Gille respectively on the libretti of the operas Carmen (1875) and Manon (1884).
