Messalina, Valeria c.25-c.48AD
Roman matron

She was the third wife of the Emperor Claudius I, whom she married at the age of 14. She bore him two children, Octavia (the wife of Nero) and Britannicus. Her name became a byword for avarice, lust and cruelty, to which only Claudius was blind. In the emperor's absence she publicly married one of her favourites, the consul-designate Silius, and the emperor had her executed.
