Morton, Thomas 1764-1838
English dramatist

He was born in Durham, and abandoned his law studies at Lincoln's Inn, London, to write plays. His works include Speed the Plough (1798, with its invisible 'Mrs Grundy'), The Blind Girl (1801), Town and Country (1807), School for Grown Children (1826), and other popular plays. He was the father of John Maddison Morton.
