King of Babylon

He succeeded his father Nabopolassar and founded the New Babylonian Empire. He rebuilt Babylon and restored almost every temple in the land. He extended the Babylonian Empire as far as the Mediterranean, defeating the Egyptians at Carchemish (605BC) and gaining control of Syria. He captured Jerusalem in 597 and 586, when he destroyed the city and deported the Jews into exile in Babylonia.
