Paganini, Niccolň 1782-1840
Italian violinist

Born in Genoa, he gave his first concert in 1793 (when his father reduced his age by two years in advertisements) and began touring professionally in Italy in 1805. He later visited Austria, Germany, Paris and London (1828-31), where his dexterity and technical expertise acquired him an almost legendary reputation. He revolutionized violin technique, among his innovations being the use of stopped harmonics. He published six concertos and (1820) the celebrated 24 Capricci.
