Philip the Good 1396-1467
Duke of Burgundy
Born in Dijon, the grandson of Philip, the Bold, he became Duke of Burgundy in 1419. Though he at first recognized Henry V of England as heir to the French Crown, he concluded a separate peace with the French (1435) and created one of the most powerful states in later medieval Europe. He added Brabant, Holland, Zeeland and Luxembourg (1430-43), and his richly extravagant Burgundian court was a model for Europe. He founded the chivalrous Order of the Golden Fleece and Jan van Eyck was one of his court painters. A committed crusader, he maintained a fleet for operations against the Ottoman Turks.

A wildcard is a special character you can use to replace one or more characters in a word. There are two types of wildcard. The first is a question mark ?, which matches a single character. The second is an asterisk *, which matches zero or more characters. The two kinds of wildcard can be mixed in a single search.
