Italian composer and teacher of singing

Born in Naples, he established a school for singing, which fostered many famous singers. From 1725 to 1755 he was in Dresden, Venice, London (1734-36) and Vienna (where he taught Haydn), composing operas and teaching. He is mentioned in George Sand's Consuelo (1842-44).
