Profumo, John Dennis 1915-
English politician
Educated at Harrow and Oxford, he became a Conservative MP in 1940. He held several government posts before becoming Secretary of State for War in 1960. He resigned three years later during the scandal following his admission that he had earlier deceived the House of Commons about the nature of his relationship with Christine Keeler, who was at the time also involved with a Russian diplomat, Captain Yevgeny Ivanov, whose memoirs appeared in 1992. After his resignation, Profumo turned to charitable service for which he was awarded the CBE in 1975. Scandal, a film based on an account of his affair with Miss Keeler, appeared in 1989.

The second is an asterisk *, which matches zero or more characters. The two kinds of wildcard can be mixed in a single search.
