Sandeau, Jules Léonard Sylvian Julien 1811-83
French writer
Born in Aubusson, he went to Paris to study law, but soon devoted himself to literature. He co-wrote Rose et Blanche (1831, 'Rose and Blanche') with George Sand. His first independent novel was Madame de Sommerville (1834) and his first success was Marianna (1840). His books give an accurate picture of the social conflicts of the France of his day, and he was master of the roman de m?urs, the social novel. He became keeper of the Mazarin Library in 1853, and librarian at St Cloud in 1859.

A wildcard is a special character you can use to replace one or more characters in a word. There are two types of wildcard. The first is a question mark ?, which matches a single character. The second is an asterisk *, which matches zero or more characters. The two kinds of wildcard can be mixed in a single search.
