Satie, Erik Alfred Leslie 1866-1925
French composer

Born in Honfleur of French-Scottish parents, he worked as a café composer, and studied under Vincent d'Indy and Albert Roussel. In his own work - ballads, lyric dramas, whimsical pieces and the ballet Parade (1917) - he was in revolt against Wagnerism and orthodoxy in general, and had some influence on Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel and others.
