Scudéry, Georges de 1601-67
French writer

He was born in Le Havre, and after a brief military career he wrote a number of plays which achieved some success. In 1637 his Observations sur le Cid led to a controversy with Pierre Corneille. The brother of Madeleine de Scudéry, he later wrote novels and had a small share in his sister's works, which first appeared under his name.
