Stephen, St 1st century AD
New Testament figure and the first Christian martyr
All we know about him is from Acts 6-7. He was possibly a Hellenistic Jew, and was appointed by the Apostles to manage the finances and alms of the early Church. He was tried by the Sanhedrin for blasphemy and stoned to death. His feast day is 26 December (in the West) and 27 December (in the East).
