Street, George Edmund 1824-81
English architect

Born in Woodford, Essex, he was assistant to Sir George Gilbert Scott, and started his own practice in 1849. From his practice, and influence, emerged major figures like William Morris, Philip Webb and Norman Shaw. He restored Christ Church in Dublin, and designed neo-Gothic buildings, including the London Law Courts and scores of churches. His publications include Brick and Marble in the Middle Ages (1855), The Architecture of North Italy (1855), and Some Account of Gothic Architecture in Spain (1865).
