Wolfe, Charles 1791-1823
Irish poet and clergyman

Born in Blackhall, County Kildare, he was educated at Winchester, and Trinity College, Dublin. He took holy orders in 1817 and became curate of Ballyclog, County Tyrone, and Donoughmore, County Down (1818). He is remembered for his poem The Burial of Sir John Moore after Corunna, which appeared anonymously in 1817 and at once caught the admiration of the public.
