Zangi, in full 'Imad al-Din Zangi 1084-1146
Syrian ruler
The son of Aksundur (d.1094), a Turk in the service of the Seljuks, he was appointed Governor of Mosul by Sultan Mahmud II (1126). He created an independent principality in northern Syria, incorporating Aleppo, Hamah and Hims. The capture of Edessa from the Franks (1144) earned him the title al-malik al-mansur ('victorious king') from the 'Abbasid caliph and was the direct cause of the Second Crusade. He was murdered by a servant before he could fulfil his greatest goal, the capture of Damascus, and was succeeded by his son, Nur al-Din.

A wildcard is a special character you can use to replace one or more characters in a word. There are two types of wildcard. The first is a question mark ?, which matches a single character. The second is an asterisk *, which matches zero or more characters. The two kinds of wildcard can be mixed in a single search.
